Wow. Last night’s season opener really delivered for a number of reasons. Perhaps least of which was the big reveal of the fifth and final cylon model*. I didn’t expect it to come so soon… which actually makes me wonder – was it really necessary to drag it out until this season? I rewatched some of the episodes from last season and it seems like there was quite a bit of filler – like they wanted to progress the storyline, but just didn’t quite have enough content.

Anyway, I digress – back to figuring out our fifth cylon model. Who if you remember correctly, Deanna said “was not in the colonial fleet”. Somehow I missed that detail because I was convinced that the final model had to be someone that we had seen on New Caprica and was probably an officer. If you recall, 4 of the final 5 were on New Caprica during the occupation – Anders, Tyrol, Tigh, and Tori. So, using that logic – I narrowed it down to Lt. Gaeta. Felix didn’t have much of a storyline last season, but he did get his leg amputated and showed off a pretty annoying singing voice. I thought surely the amputation was a short-term thing as he would be “reborn” into a new body sometime in the near future.

But, it was all so wrong! It turns out it certainly was someone on New Caprica, but not the person I thought it was. Ellen Tigh. Wow. The crazy lady who was accused of being a cylon when she made her mysterious reappearance in Season 1. I had totally discounted her, thinking that it had to be one of the central characters… Ellen hasn’t been around much since season 2 (correct me if I’m wrong there). BUT, she sure did play a part last season. Remember when Tigh’s hallucinations wavered between Six and his dead wife when he visited Six in the brig. Kinda makes sense now doesn’t it?? He was already having his flashbacks… but they were much more potent on Earth.

So, fellow BSGers – did you get it right? Did you know it was going to be frakkin’ Ellen Tigh?? Regardless of your answer – what do you think about it? I admit that I was pretty annoyed at the time, although I think it’s grown on me a bit. Plus, I may have just been angry about losing poor D after she and Lee seemed so happy! (Although I’m still a Lee and Starbuck fan).

*Well, at least we’ve been lead to think it’s the final cylon model. There are a lot of theories out there…
